Saturday November 16, over 250 residents arrived by bus to the Bowness Community Association to take part in a kick-off to the holiday season – Horizon Housing’s Winter Carnival.
“Our Winter Party is carefully planned to include all of our residents which is why we think through every detail – from choosing an accessible location to selecting activities, food and entertainment that are fun for a variety of people,” says Che Greywall, Stakeholder Relations Assistant and event organizer. “We consider a variety of needs so all residents feel welcome and are excited to take part.”
From the time guests set foot in the transformed gymnasium, they were fully immersed in a winter carnival, complete with tarot card reader, carnival-themed treats, magician, face painters, games of chance, photobooth and more.
“I like a good party, food, prizes and spending time chatting with some of my neighbours,” says Ed, Resident of Horizon Housing. “I plan to keep coming back until I win that 50″ big screen TV. Okay, some of that might just be the coffee, ice cream and candy talking.”
Horizon staff and board, along with many community volunteers came out to lend a hand – welcoming residents, serving food and working carnival games.
“Our goal is to share the spirit of the holiday season with our residents,” says Martina Jileckova, CEO of Horizon Housing. “That holiday spirit comes in the form of a team of dedicated volunteers and organizers who are there simply to share a meaningful experience with our residents.”
A special thanks to our generous supporters: Brownlee LLP, RBC, Petrotranz, Village Ice Cream, The Brick, Starbucks, Tim Horton’s, Calgary Hitmen, Cineplex, Chapters Indigo, Calgary Co-op, Theatre Calgary, and the Horizon team for bringing Winter Carnival to our residents.
