RBC Announces $1 Million Gift to RESOLVE

New affordable housing options to assist vulnerable individuals and families will be available in Calgary thanks to RBC’s $1 million donation to the RESOLVE Campaign. On April 24, 2015 RBC announced this gift at Alice Bissett Place, a building owned and operated by Horizon Housing Society.  RBC’s gift is designated to Horizon Housing Society and will help fund construction of a new 160-unit building.

Horizon Housing provides a place to call home for people with mental health challenges, physical disabilities, families and seniors living below the poverty line and the working poor. Many of these individuals have experienced homelessness or would be homeless without Horizon Housing.

“RESOLVE, Horizon Housing and the eight other partner agencies involved in this campaign are shaping the future of this city,” says Jeff Boyd, Regional President, RBC. “It demonstrates the great power of partnership and we are grateful to have an opportunity to be part of this amazing story of transformation here in Calgary.”

Horizon Housing’s planned building is part of the RESOLVE Campaign to provide affordable and supported rental housing in Calgary, a first-in-Canada collaboration of nine homeless-serving agencies.

“As a bank, RBC has helped so many Canadians achieve the dream of having their own home. RBC’s gift builds on that foundation by bringing the dream of home to individuals and families in need,” says Kim O’Brien, Executive Director, Horizon Housing Society. “This gift will touch the lives of hundreds of vulnerable Calgarians.”

“From the ground up, we’re on the way to creating affordable and supported rental homes for 3,000 vulnerable and homeless Calgarians,” says Sheryl Barlage, Executive Director, RESOLVE Campaign. “The generous contribution from RBC means more Calgarians will soon have a place to call home.”
