“Elan” is defined as “with energy, style and enthusiasm”. Today, thanks to an unprecedented donation from a private donor and his family, Horizon has begun transforming a hotel into homes.
“We consider ourselves champions for home and are humbled by this donor’s belief in this mission,” says Martina Jileckova, CEO of Horizon Housing. “And because the acquisition was made possible through a donation unlike any other in Horizon’s history, we have an unprecedented opportunity to innovate. Our vision for The Elan is that it will radiate energy and vitality: when you walk through the front doors, you’ll know it’s a place for community and a home for all to be welcome.”
The Elan will offer 62 homes through a combination of studio, 1- and 2-bedroom units. Ideally located off 17th Avenue SW, The Elan offers an array of on-site community spaces and quality amenities.
“Right now, given the need for housing in our city, we’re focused on getting these homes ready to rent while celebrating the incredible generosity of those in our community who understand the impact of home,” says Aaron Morris, Director of Development and Strategy. “We’re also working closely with community partners and the Horizon team to think innovatively about how we can foster strong connections between residents, their neighbours and their community.”
