The Calgary Stampede is a trademark event that exemplifies all the things our city stands for: hospitality, generosity, and a spirit of inclusiveness and welcoming. On July 7, Horizon Housing Society brought the Calgary Stampede to tenants and community with its 7th Annual Tenant Stampede BBQ.
Joined by community supporters, affordable housing partners, local government representatives and volunteers, we celebrated with a BBQ lunch, live country music, dancing and other stampede-themed entertainment.
“The Calgary Stampede is all about coming together as a community and celebrating everything that make this city great,” says Kim O’Brien, Executive Director of Horizon Housing Society. “It’s important that everyone, no matter what their circumstance, has an opportunity to be part of this. That’s why, with the help of our supporters, we bring the spirit of the Calgary Stampede to our tenants each year.”
Horizon Housing tenant Michael Pineo agrees the Stampede barbecue is much more than just a party. “Here we have a chance to meet others in our community and expand our support networks. Many of us need a little help and support to deal with life’s challenges,” says Pineo.
Horizon Housing’s Tenant Stampede Barbecue is made possible through the support of generous donors, sponsors and volunteers. The Nickle Family Foundation contributed as a major sponsor of the event. “The Nickle Family Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life in our city and province,” says David Peever, Executive Director of the Nickle Family Foundation. “Horizon Housing’s Tenant Stampede Barbecue directly fits that mandate. Bringing the spirit of the Calgary Stampede to the doorsteps of some of Calgary’s most vulnerable is a meaningful way we can build community and promote inclusivity in our city.”
Thank you to our tenants, sponsors, donor, staff, media, volunteers and guests for joining us to celebrate the spirit of the Calgary Stampede.
