Triwood was acquired by Horizon in 2020 from McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association of Calgary & Area, a long-time referring partner. Horizon View

Horizon View is a five-storey building located in the community of Glamorgan. It was constructed in two phases over three years and offers 210 units consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, as well as three-bedroom townhomes. The building also offers 22 accessible units and 10 adaptable units for residents with mobility challenges.

Horizon View was designed by residents, for residents. Based on interviews and focus groups with current Horizon residents, we incorporated more in-suite storage, wider hallways, larger windows, a secure space to store bicycles and on-site office space for supporting partner agencies. The exterior has plenty of open green space, including an accessible playground.

The building also includes a five- and six-bedroom group-home style ‘pods’ with 24/7 care provided by the Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency (URSA). Here, people with complex needs receive the care they need in homes integrated within the community.

Phase 1 opened in November 2018 and Phase 2 welcomed residents home in June 2020. Horizon View was completed thanks to support from the Government of Canada (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation), Government of Alberta, City of Calgary, generous donors to the RESOLVE Campaign and countless community partners.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, Horizon Housing acquired The Elan in summer 2020. This former boutique hotel, located at 1122 16th Avenue SW, has been transformed to 62 new homes for Calgarians.

Elan (noun) meaning liveliness, enthusiasm and panache or a distinctive style or flair, is the spirit in which Horizon embarked upon this unique opportunity to re-purpose studio, one and two-bedroom hotel units into homes.

Located in the Beltline, just off 17th Avenue SW, the building is well situated within walking distance to local amenities, services, and public transit.

An important element of home is the ability to share it with others. Horizon is working closely with residents, neighbours, local businesses and partner agencies to build on the legacy of The Elan and foster a vibrant and integrated community for years to come.
