Alice Bissett Place
Alice Bissett Place is a three-storey building located in the community of Inglewood. It has 117 suites consisting of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom townhouse units. The building boasts energy efficient solar panels, a beautifully landscaped exterior and 12 accessible units.
Development of Alice Bissett Place was completed in 2009 as a result of a joint venture partnership between the Calgary Home Builders Foundation, the Calgary Homeless Foundation and Horizon Housing.
David Bissett, along with his wife Leslie, donated to the construction of the building, which is named after Mr. Bissett’s mother, Alice.
In 2013, Alice Bissett Place was awarded Building of the Year (101+ units) by the Calgary Residential Rental Association. Candidates were evaluated on several criteria, including building upkeep and cleanliness, curb appeal, lighting, renovations and security.
Bob Ward Residence
Bob Ward Residence is a three-storey affordable housing residence located in the community of Glamorgan. It consists of 64 suites containing studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, as well as a four-bedroom unit.
Bob Ward Residence was developed by a joint venture partnership between the Calgary Home Builders Foundation, the Calgary Homeless Foundation, and Horizon Housing in 2003.
Heritage Gardens
Heritage Gardens is a five-storey building located in the community of Fairview. The building has 95 units containing studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. Heritage Gardens was constructed in 1962 and acquired by Horizon in 2010.
Horizon 14
Horizon 14 is a nine-storey building located in the community of West Hillhurst. Horizon 14 has 59 units containing studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites, along with first floor commercial space. Horizon 14 was developed by Horizon in 1978.
Horizon 8
Horizon 8 is a five-storey building located in the west end of downtown Calgary. This building consists of 50 studio suites. Horizon 8 was constructed in 1962 and acquired by Horizon in 2001.
Horizon Park
Horizon Park is a six-story building located in the Beltline neighbourhood. This building contains 35 units consisting of one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites. Horizon Park was constructed in 1968 and acquired by Horizon in 1993.
Triwood
Triwood is a three-storey residence located in Calgary’s northwest community of Triwood. It has 24 homes consisting of one-bedroom units. The residence features convenient access to Nose Hill Park, local shops, schools and city transit.
Triwood was acquired by Horizon in 2020 from McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association of Calgary & Area, a long-time referring partner. The transition of ownership has allowed Horizon to focus efforts on property management and resident experience, while McMan continues to provide programs and supports for children, youth, and families.
Horizon View
Horizon View is a five-storey building located in the community of Glamorgan. It was constructed in two phases over three years and offers 210 units consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, as well as three-bedroom townhomes. The building also offers 22 accessible units and 10 adaptable units for residents with mobility challenges.
Horizon View was designed by residents, for residents. Based on interviews and focus groups with current Horizon residents, we incorporated more in-suite storage, wider hallways, larger windows, a secure space to store bicycles and on-site office space for supporting partner agencies. The exterior has plenty of open green space, including an accessible playground.
The building also includes a five- and six-bedroom group-home style ‘pods’ with 24/7 care provided by the Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency (URSA). Here, people with complex needs receive the care they need in homes integrated within the community.
Phase 1 opened in November 2018 and Phase 2 welcomed residents home in June 2020. Horizon View was completed thanks to support from the Government of Canada (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation), Government of Alberta, City of Calgary, generous donors to the RESOLVE Campaign and countless community partners.
Horizon West
Horizon West is an eight-storey building located in the community of Glendale. This building has 108 suites consisting of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom suites. It also includes a unique, split-level concept. Horizon West was developed by Horizon in 1983.
Horizon Ridge
Horizon Housing’s latest development, which opened in June 2022, has created 65 new homes in the northeast community of Pineridge.
Purpose-built to meet the needs of the community and conveniently located within walking distance to public transit, shopping, and green space, these one, two, and three-bedroom homes brings quality housing options together with thoughtful design and convenient amenities to foster a connected and inclusive community.

The Elan
Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, Horizon Housing acquired The Elan in summer 2020. This former boutique hotel, located at 1122 16th Avenue SW, has been transformed to 62 new homes for Calgarians.
Elan (noun) meaning liveliness, enthusiasm and panache or a distinctive style or flair, is the spirit in which Horizon embarked upon this unique opportunity to re-purpose studio, one and two-bedroom hotel units into homes.
Located in the Beltline, just off 17th Avenue SW, the building is well situated within walking distance to local amenities, services, and public transit.
An important element of home is the ability to share it with others. Horizon is working closely with residents, neighbours, local businesses and partner agencies to build on the legacy of The Elan and foster a vibrant and integrated community for years to come.
Horizon 12
Horizon 12 is a 33-unit building that opened in February 2022 in central Calgary. It is a former hotel with modern, self-contained studio suites that provides a safe home for Indigenous women and women who have experienced domestic violence. The building is within walking distance of essential amenities, such as grocery stores and transportation.
