Horizon Housing’s 2017 Partner Appreciation Evening
On October 18, over 100 guests gathered with Horizon Housing for its Partner Appreciation Evening, an annual event aimed at celebrating collaboration and partnerships between the individuals and organizations committed to ensuring all Calgarians have a safe, affordable place to call home.
This year’s event had a “Hollywood” theme, but focused on the power and potential of partnerships. Horizon Housing tenant, Mike H. shared his perspective on how support and partnerships among community organizations has impacted his life. “Over the years, I have received support from the Drop-in Centre, Calgary Dream Centre, Victory Outreach Centre, Saint Jude’s Health Management Institute and Horizon Housing Society. From the help of these organizations, I have been able to work through some of my life’s most challenging moments and focus on what’s most important to me: making a difference.”
Echoing Mike’s message, display boards around the room reflected the importance of partnerships for Horizon Housing staff, board, tenants, government, partners, donors, and supporters.
The Honourable Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing said, “All Albertans deserve a safe and affordable place to call home. Our government is proud to work with partners like Horizon Housing in the private and non-profit sectors who help make life better for vulnerable Albertans.”
The evening’s program concluded with comments from Louise Fisher, Horizon Housing’s Interim CEO. “We believe home is a basic human right and something that no one should be without. For many Calgarians, home isn’t possible without the help of the people in the room this evening. Whether you give of your time or your talents, whether you give as a donor, a volunteer, or someone who works on the front lines supporting our tenants and our staff, as a valued partner of Horizon Housing: you are helping. Thank you.”
