On the Horizon

RESOLVE Campaign

Horizon Housing Society is one of nine proud Partners in the RESOLVE Campaign to provide affordable and supported housing for 3,000 vulnerable and homeless Calgarians. Our RESOLVE project will offer a place to call home for individuals living with mental health challenges or physical disabilities, families and seniors living below the poverty line, the working poor and others with a variety of needs.

This holiday season, as we string lights around our windows, cook turkeys in our kitchens and warm up by the fireplace with our loved ones, we think of those who aren’t able to enjoy these simple pleasures because they don’t have a home.

There are currently 3,500 Calgarians experiencing homelessness and another 14,000 households vulnerable and at risk of becoming part of the homeless population.

RESOLVE is about providing affordable and supported housing for 3,000 vulnerable and homeless Calgarians. By raising $120 million to leverage government funding, we can end the affordable housing crisis in Calgary. Our nine Partners are: Accessible Housing; Bishop O’Byrne Housing; Calgary Alpha House Society; Calgary Homeless Foundation; Calgary John Howard Society; Horizon Housing Society; Silvera for Seniors; The Mustard Seed; and Trinity Place Foundation of Alberta.

At this time of year, it comes naturally to think about those who are less fortunate. But we ask that, as you take down the strings of lights and finish the last of your turkey leftovers, you continue to think of the Calgarians who need our holiday spirit all year round. To those who have made our progress possible, we say thank you for all the doors you have unlocked for the most vulnerable people in our city. We look forward to continuing our work together in the New Year — making Calgary a better home for everyone.

Happy Holidays to all, from the RESOLVE team.
